Learn to Curl (San Jose) 2023-02-14

February 14 @ 7:40 pm - 10:00 pm

$40.00

Seen curling in the Olympics? Does it look like a blast? Ever wanted to try it? If you answered “Yes!” to any of these questions, come to a Learn to Curl session and get swept up in curling!
The two-hour session includes a safety talk, an overview of the game, learning how to deliver the stones, learning how to sweep, and playing a mini-game (as time allows). We’ll also welcome you to post-session socializing with curlers in Stanley’s if you have the time.

Cost: $40/person

What should I wear?
Sneakers (for your safety, people wearing inadequate footwear such as sandals, boots, or heels will not be allowed to participate), athletic pants (jeans are discouraged since you’ll need to be able to lunge), and warm clothes (hats, gloves). Layers are recommended. You’ll be on ice, so it’s cold. But many people warm up after sweeping a few stones.

What exactly will this session involve?
Learning and Playing are the two major portions, with optional socializing afterward. We’ll teach you the slide or delivery, the release, sweeping, scoring and boundaries, a few simple rules, and how good sportsmanship is practiced in curling. You’ll then play your first curling game with whatever time remains. We’ll make sure you game you play focuses on fun and opportunities to try new things so it might not look exactly like an olympic game, but you’ll be a curler nonetheless. After your time on the ice, we will invite you to join us for post-game beverages at the onsite sports bar, Stanley’s, with other curlers both from the Learn to Curl and from the League.

I’m purchasing tickets for multiple people and don’t know their email addresses, or I’m purchasing for a minor that doesn’t have an email address, what do I enter?
As much as possible we ask that you enter accurate email addresses for the planned attendees. If you’re trying to purchase quickly, or in the case of minors, you can use an existing email address and add a ‘+’ sign and a unique word or name after the first part of the email address before the ‘@’ sign to create a unique address that will arrive to your existing account.
Example: name@gmail.com would become name+secondname@gmail.com and name+thirdname@gmail.com, etc.

When purchasing tickets why am I required to enter unique emails for each participant? Will this be used for spam or marketing?
No marketing. We only use these email addresses for the purpose of putting on these Learn to Curl events.
Everyone participating receives clear instructions on what to wear, where to go, and what to expect. Each participant will usually receive 3-4 total emails:
– a ticket email as soon as you complete your purchase
Your Upcoming Learn to Curl, which will typically arrive anytime in the week prior to the event and explain how to be prepared for the event, and how to sign waivers,
Next Steps in Curling, which arrives in the week following the event which describes the club, how to join the spare player list, a league, or as a member, and a link to a survey about how we did, and
– If there are any disruptions to the event we’ll contact you
