How do I register for the Silicon Valley Bonspiel (SVB)?
Registration for the 2020 SVB opens on Friday, February 14th, at Noon PST. In order to secure your team’s spot, full payment is due upon registration. Visit the team registration page to process your payment. If you have a 5th member for your team, please add the additional “Fifth Player Registration” product to your cart. Once your payment is processed, you will receive a confirmation email from “Silicon Valley Curling Club” firstname.lastname@example.org. This email will contain your order number and a link to provide your team’s details. Once you have provided your team’s details, your registration is complete.
Can I register as an individual?
At the opening of our registration, we only accept full team registrations. Individual player and spare registrations may open later in the registration period as we get closer to filling all teams spots. If you are interested in being placed on a team as an individual, please contact us at email@example.com and we will try to connect you to a team that is looking for another member.
Can each member of my team pay separately?
Unfortunately, we are unable to split payment during registration. Full team payment is required to secure your spot. The only exception is the 5th player registration fee. The additional $35 cost can be paid separately in its own transaction.
Why does a 5th member have an additional cost?
We are charging an additional fee for teams with 5 members to help offset the costs of additional food and other bonspiel items for the weekend.
Some of my team’s details have changed. Can I still update the information that has been provided?
Yes! You should have a received a copy of your responses in an email that includes a link to “Edit Response”. You may update your team’s details until April 30th. If there are any changes that need to be made after April 30th, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your update requests. Please note that we cannot guarantee changes made after April 30th will be reflected in the bonspiel program or team placard.
What food & drink options are available at the arena?

What is the format of the 2020 Silicon Valley Bonspiel?
The Silicon Valley Bonspiel is an open format, 4-game guarantee with 4 events. Depending on the number of registered teams, the format may change between bracket or pool-play to lead into 4 events.
Will there be a raffle and/or silent auction and how can I donate?
Yes! There will be a raffle and silent auction. We will kindly accept your donated item(s) to be entered into the raffle. We will have extra baskets available so you won’t need to bring one, especially if you are coming from out of town. Please bring your item(s) to the check-in table before your first draw. If you would rather have your item(s) go towards the silent auction, please let us know when dropping it off (we will also need the approximate cost of the item).
How are the ice conditions?
We anticipate our bonspiel will be played on 4 or 5 sheets of well-groomed arena ice. We will have access to the ice the day before our first draw on Friday to make sure the ice is in peak condition for our bonspiel.
When will the draw schedule be available?
We anticipate that the final draw schedule will be available in Mid-May. The availability of the draw schedule may change depending on how quickly bonspiel registration fills. Currently, the first 4 draws are planned for Friday, May 22nd at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm and 4:00pm.
Do I have to take off from work on Friday, May 22nd, to participate in the bonspiel?
Currently, the first 4 draws are planned for Friday, May 22nd at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm and 4:00pm. All registered teams will be playing during one of these draws so it is likely that you will have to request a day off from work to participate if you are coming from out of town. If you are local, you may only need to request a half-day depending on your first draw time. Please use your judgment and make the appropriate plans with your employer so that you may participate fully in the bonspiel. If you are unable to curl in your first draw on Friday, but can make it for the rest of the bonspiel, consider adding a 5th player to your team (see Q1 above). You can also contact us and we can try to help find a spare or your team can curl with the 3 present members.
When should I plan to get to town?
Our first draw will begin at 8:30am on Friday, May 22, 2020. Check-in will be available for all teams starting at 7:30am that same day. We suggest that you plan to fly in Thursday night as most flights will not arrive early enough for you to fly Friday morning and make it in time for a morning draw! Currently, the first 4 draws are planned for Friday, May 22nd at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm and 4:00pm. You will have a chance to indicate your first draw time preference when you provide your team’s registration details. We will do our best to honor your requests but cannot guarantee your first choice will be your first draw time.

For the most convenience getting to and from the bonspiel, plan to stay in or around Fremont, CA. The arena is located at 44388 Old Warm Springs Blvd. Fremont CA, 94538.
We are working on a partnership with a nearby hotel to provide a block of rooms at a special rate for the weekend. Information will be provided on our main bonspiel page when it becomes available.
I have friends and/or family coming with me. Can they watch?
Yes! In fact, we encourage you to bring your friends and family to watch you and others curl the whole weekend. There are bleachers located next to the rink where they can sit and watch. They can even watch from a bench located right next to ice to really see the action up close! If they prefer to stay a bit warmer, they can watch all the action from Stanley’s Sports Bar.
